Kick-off Meeting for Developing IKE Benchmark Values: A Strategic Step Towards Energy Efficiency in Commercial Buildings
Jakarta, July 18, 2025 — The Directorate of Energy Conservation under the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), held a Kick-Off Meeting for the development of benchmark values for the Energy Consumption Index (IKE) in commercial buildings. This initiative is in collaboration with the GIZ-SETI (Supporting the Energy Transition in Indonesia) program and the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Government.
The meeting, held at the Slamet Bratanata Building in Jakarta, marked the start of a national study aimed at setting benchmark energy efficiency values for five key types of buildings: Class A Hospitals, Airports, Universities, Train Stations, and MRT Stations. The project is being carried out by the Institute for Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Management (IREEM) as the technical implementing partner.
This activity is part of the implementation of Government Regulation No. 33 of 2023 on Energy Conservation, focusing on improving energy efficiency in the building sector, which plays a significant role in national energy consumption. By establishing benchmark IKE values, the government hopes to provide measurable, comparable, and actionable energy performance standards for building managers and related stakeholders. The study is expected to continue until January 2026.
